Traders Clinic. Here we give answers to some commonly asked questions about any aspect of trading. You can submit your question for inclusion here using the "Contact" Link I don't understand about Risk and Reward. I'm told to set my target at a minimum of twice my risk but almost always I get stopped and don't make the profit target. Should I accept a smaller target? So many so called traders say things like this. The number of times the market will move twice the distance of the stop-loss (depending where it is of course - but using common places for the stop) is less then 30% in our experience. However, the object is to acheive a final result of around 2:1 profit -v- loss and this can be better acheived by "trade management" where the initial profit target is around 1:1 and the stop-loss moved as the trade progresses and some of the trade is left to follow a possible trend. |
